Anima Schäfer studied Pharmacy at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Basel. In 2015, she successfully conducted her master thesis studies at the University of Western Ontario in London, CA, where she focused on the role of the drug transporter OATP2B1 in thyroid hormone homeostasis. She graduated as pharmacist and received the federal diploma in 2016. Shortly after graduation, she started her PhD studies focusing on the establishment of competitive counterflow as a method to screen for OATP2B1 substrates, which she applied to gather data on the influence of OATP2B1 on the handling of constituents of phytopharmaceuticals. After her PhD defense in April 2021, Anima started her PostDoc in the group of Biopharmacy. Currently, she is working on uptake transporters and their impact on drug distribution and elimination. Here, she is especially interested in the in vivo translation of her previous in vitro findings.

Besides, she is employed as coordinator of the PhD-Program for Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, where she is engaged in establishing the novel program.
