Tiago Bozzola graduated cum laude in “Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies” at the University of Turin in 2018. His master thesis work started in the laboratories of Prof. Marco L. Lolli in the synthesis of human dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH), to then continue in Lund, Sweden, as an Erasmus student. Under the supervision of Prof. Ulf J. Nilsson, he approached the world of carbohydrate chemistry and started on the topic that later became also his PhD research field. The research focuses on design, synthesis and evaluation of sialic acid derivatives as novel antibacterial agents. His PhD training started in March 2018 with the joint supervision of Prof. Ulf Ellervik in Lund and Dr. Oliver Schwardt in Basel, in the European network “PhD4Glycodrug”.
