Alesssandra Cavegn graduated from the University of Basel as a Master in Drug Sciences in August 2021.  She carried out her master thesis project at Roche, where she investigated cellular mechanisms of AAV transport across the blood-brain barrier. This thesis was co-supervised by Prof. Dr. D. Ricklin of the University of Basel.

Starting February 2022, she worked at Novartis for 10 months in the Cell Line Screening and Development Group within NIBR. There she pursued a project on AAV producer cell line and production optimization with the aim to boost AAV yields. 

In March 2023, she joined the Pharmaceutical Technology research group of Prof. Dr. J. Huwyler at the University of Basel as a PhD student. Her current research focuses on multifunctional lipid-based nanoparticles for non-viral delivery of DNA therapeutics for liver-related genetic disease
