Prof. Alex Odermatt graduated in Chemistry with specialization in Biochemistry at the University of Berne in 1991 and got his PhD in Biochemistry at the Institute of Clinical Pharmacology, University of Berne, in 1994. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow with Prof. David H. MacLennan from 1995-1998 at the Best Institute, University of Toronto, Canada. From 1998-2000 he was a Senior research fellow at the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension, University of Berne, and from 2000-2007 Oberassistent and Research Group Leader. He received his habilitation in Molecular Genetics in 2001 at the Medical Faculty, University of Berne. In April 2007, he was appointed as Novartis Professor for Molecular and Systems Toxicology at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Basel.

Other activities:

Deputy Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Basel, Associate Editor of the Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Member of the Management Board of the Swiss Center of Applied Human Toxicology, Member of the Science Advisory Board of the 3R Research Foundation Switzerland.
