Cornelia Schneider is a health data scientist at the Basel Pharmacoepidemiology Unit. She has a PhD in pharmacoepidemiology and a background in molecular biology and epidemiology, she gained during her studies in Germany, Scotland and here in Basel and while working as a research fellow in gender medicine at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute.

Her current research interest lies at the interface between diagnostics, prevention and treatment, and the combination of biomedical, pharmaceutical, and digital knowledge to advance health. Current research includes:

  • early detection of diseases based on routinely assessed clinical parameters
  • assessment of medication use and safety in children using data from electronic health care records
  • application of machine learning techniques in clinical and pharmaco-epidemiology
  • application of  pharmacoepidemiologic methods in the assessment of medication safety and effectiveness in various clinical areas

 

She teaches epidemiology at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Basel as well as gender medicine and digital health topics at the Zürich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) and supervises PhD and MSc candidates.
