Curriculum Vitae
Philipp Späne earned his Master in Life Sciences at the University of Applied Sciences Nordwestschweiz specializing in Pharmatechnology. For his thesis, he collaborated with Dr. Claudia Merkl's team at Novartis Pharma AG - NIBR, developing a method for nuclei extraction from peripheral nerve tissue. Employing single nuclei RNA sequencing on isolated nuclei, they unveiled transcriptomic differences between a peripheral neuropathy disease model and healthy controls. Before joining MolSysTox, Philipp gained additional experience through an internship in Dr. Carsten Jacobi’s group at NIBR, supporting the Mode of Action Identification team in the field of Osteoarthritis. At MolSysTox, Philipp investigates xenobiotics interfering with corticosteroid metabolism and causing hypertension and hypokalemia. Additionally, he aims to identify drugs non-intentionally inhibiting non-drug metabolizing cytochrome P450 enzymes.
