Shu-Yu Chen received his bachelor’s degrees in Physics and Biomedical Engineering from National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, where he worked on quantum information theory and the collective motion of biological cells. During his master’s and doctoral studies at the Technical University of Munich with Prof. Martin Zacharias, he applied molecular dynamics simulations to study protein–protein interactions in biological membranes and the thermodynamics of molecular glues. He also contributed to teaching through tutorial lectures in statistical mechanics and quantum mechanics.
In 2023, he joined Prof. Sereina Riniker’s group at ETH Zurich, where he focused on method development for conformational sampling, ternary complex formation, and non-equilibrium free-energy methods. In 2026, Shu-Yu joined the Computational Pharmacy group to develop computational methods for sampling thermodynamic ensembles and characterizing molecular systems.
