Drug Information Service KLIPS (Klinischer Pharmakologischer Service)

The Regional Pharmacovigilance Center (RPVC) Basel is one of 6 RPVCs in Switzerland which collect and assess spontaneous reports concerning ADRs and transmit them to the National Pharmacovigilance Center Swissmedic. Swissmedic in turn forwards them to the WHO Monitoring Center in Uppsala (UMC) and the respective drug companies. The RVC Basel is integrated in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology at the University Hospital of Basel. According to Swiss law, professionals who apply, dispense or prescribe drugs are obliged to report serious adverse drug reactions (ADRs) to the RPVC within 15 days. Serious ADR are defined as resulting in death, hospitalization, being life threatening, irreversible, disabling or otherwise medically important.
