Mission
Our research and services are based on a commitment to evidence based practice and teaching. We are developing “Pharmaceutical Care” as a core competence of the pharmacy workforce within the health system.
Strategic Goals
The Pharmaceutical Care Research Group (PCRG) is sustainably established as an indispensable teaching and research group within the Pharmaceutical Sciences/Life Sciences of the University of Basel.
- We provide high quality training in Pharmaceutical Care for bachelor and master students, doctoral candidates and within postgraduate education programmes, ensuring that graduates are fully qualified to assume responsibility in the health care system
- We cover relevant research topics through unique projects, with the aim of boosting the impact of Pharmaceutical Care provided to individual patients with a focus on ambulatory care, the transition between care settings, and the interprofessional cooperation.
- We develop and provide guidelines, tools and educational support for the optimization of practical patient care regarding medicines use
- We reinforce national and international collaborative work
Definition of Pharmaceutical Care
According to the definition established by the Pharmaceutical Care Network (PCNE), "Pharmaceutical Care is the pharmacist's contribution to the care of individuals in order to optimize medicines use and improve health outcomes". (DOI: 10.1007/s11096-014-9933-x)
Resolution on Pharmaceutical Care
The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe released on 11 March 2020 the resolution CM/Res(2020)3 on the implementation of Pharmaceutical Care for the benefit of patients and health services. (https://rm.coe.int/09000016809cdf26)
