Dr. Jamal Bouitbir obtained his PhD in Physiology in 2010 at the Medical Faculty, University of Strasbourg (France). He investigated the mechanisms of statins-associated myotoxicity. From 2007 to 2011, he assisted Prof. Bernard Geny at the University Hospital of Strasbourg, teaching medical and nursing students in Physiology. In 2011, he joined Prof. Stephan Krähenbühl as a post-doctoral fellow at the department of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, University Hospital of Basel (Switzerland). As Head of the laboratory of Toxicology at the department of Biomedicine at the University Hospital of Basel, he obtained a Habilitation in Pharmacology in 2019 at the University of Basel. In July 2020, he joined Prof. Alex Odermatt at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Basel.

His main scientific interest is the study of toxicological mechanisms of drugs on liver, skeletal muscle, and heart. Understanding the mechanisms of toxicity of drugs could help for the investigation of potential susceptibility factors.
