Esther Spinatsch is a pharmacist and researcher focusing on the development and implementation of evidence-based pharmacy services, particularly in the area of emergency contraception.

She studied pharmacy at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, and graduated in 2008 with the federal diploma in pharmacy. After working at the pharmacy of Unisanté in Lausanne, she joined the Pharmaceutical Care Research Group at the University of Basel in 2010 as a research associate and teacher practitioner, and since 2021 as a PhD student.

In parallel, she works in a community pharmacy in Basel.

Teaching

  • Single lectures as teacher practitioner in the Master of Pharmacy programme
  • Supervision of Master’s theses in pharmaceutical care
  • Member of the expert group for the federal pharmacy examinations

Professional activities

  • Board member of the Interprofessional Expert Group for Emergency Contraception (IENK)
  • Board member of the European Consortium for Emergency Contraception (ECEC)
  • Co-founder and CEO of Qualitheke GmbH, a spin-off of the University of Basel focused on the implementation of evidence-based pharmacy services developed in collaboration with the University of Basel, including the continuing education service imail-Offizin and the digital counselling support tool pharMe for community pharmacies.
