Haijie Zhao graduated in Chemistry and Physics of Polymers in 2018 at Jinan University, China. In 2023, he obtained his Ph.D. under the guidance of Prof. Martin Fussenegger at ETH Zürich, where he investigated programming mammalian cells to respond to physical stimuli for disease therapy.

In December 2023, he joined the Molecular Pharmacy group at the University of Basel as a postdoctoral fellow, working under the supervision of Prof. Daniel Ricklin and Prof. Beat Ernst. Haijie’s research focuses on the development of glycomimetic polymers for the therapeutic treatment of viral infections.
