Welcome - Linda Simmler
Finally, the time has come! We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Linda Simmler to the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences as of 01.08.2023. Simmler received one of the seven SNSF Starting Grants of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), which were awarded to the University of Basel. The SNSF supports outstanding young researchers in Switzerland and enables them to lead a research project with their own team. The successful scientists are supported by the SNSF with an average of CHF 1.7 million over a period of 5 years.
Dr Linda Simmler studied pharmacy at the University of Basel, where she received her doctorate in 2013. Simmler then conducted research in the USA and at the University of Geneva. Her SNSF project at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Basel is investigating the hallucinogen psilocybin and its use as an antidepressant. The substance, usually classified as a narcotic, has great potential in the treatment of severe depression and other mental illnesses. Simmler now wants to find out how exactly psilocybin affects our brain and explain the clinical effect mechanistically.
