Prof. Christoph Meier, the head of the research group, is also head of the Hospital Pharmacy at the Basel University Hospital; his office is located in the Rossetti building at the Spitalstrasse 26 in Basel. Postdoctoral and doctoral students of this group, as well as the programmer, are working in the Formonterhof, St. Johanns-Vorstadt 27 in Basel.

Clinical pharmacy is a discipline aiming at improving the pharmacotherapy of patients in the clinical setting. Clinical pharmacists work in close collaboration with doctors and nurses and help increasing the safety of medicines and improving the cost-effectiveness of therapies. The main research activity of this group is "pharmacoepidemiology", a research discipline which explores — based on statistical analyses of medical patient records — adverse or beneficial effects of drugs in large populations.
